Christmas Theme Weddings

Weddings used to be a just a gathering of family, friends and neighbours with lots of good food and drinks. That was a very long time ago!

Today, these ‘gatherings’ have evolved into a fanfare of colour; replications of specific themes or styles; portrayal of specific seasons of the year, and some, disguise themselves in Halloween costumes – a bride and groom dressed as the ‘living dead’.

It’s your wedding and you must decide upon whatever you are both happy with.

With Christmas around the corner, for those who truly love the season, there are many options available for a Christmas themed wedding.

Although red, green, and silver tend to be the traditional colours for Christmas, there are other colours that can be used effectively such as burgundy, blue, gold and of course, white. A Christmas themed wedding, can also be quite effective on the beach, weather permitting. Having a Christmas themed wedding allows you to incorporate as many or the traditions within the planning of every aspect of your wedding.

The Bride can even decide to dress in the theme of Christmas –maybe a Mrs. Claus’ dress, but then this leaves the groom to dress like Santa and I would imagine that would take some convincing!
Let’s say the Bride decides to wear her traditional gown, the she can enhance the dress with a shawl or she can use poinsettias as her bouquet. The red and white combination would make a very dramatic bouquet. The groom can use an artificial poinsettia in his lapel. The bridesmaids can be dressed in any of the vibrant Christmas colours. The groomsmen can wear matching ties and lapel flowers.

Go wild with decorations! So many to choose from! Don’t forget Christmas lights. Lights add life to any room. They can be coloured or plain white. Twinkling lights always seem magical if they are small delicate bulbs. Most places are already decorated for the season so you might find that your costs can be cut considerably for decorating.

A nice touch for the reception could be a welcoming drink of Eggnog, if it is a tradition in your part of the world. If it is spiked with some rum or brandy, the Christmas spirit will certainly be felt.

The wedding cake can be done in tiers that are decorated like Christmas gifts. Brightly coloured with ribbons all made from icing or spun sugar. Cake decorators today, work magic! Your wedding favours can also be wrapped like Christmas presents.

Add Christmas music and you and your guests are in your private Christmas world!
