Wedding Reception – Sit Down Meal

Wedding receptions can take just about any form that the Bride & Groom or their parents agree upon – or whoever is responsible for that part of the wedding.

Your Wedding Reception can be as simple as having a meal at a restaurant or at someone’s home. It can also be extravagant and formal. What’s important is that you discuss and decide together, what type of reception fits your budget and your taste.

This is one area that you must seek professional advice unless you are accustomed to catering such events yourself.

Having a sit-down meal is always very enjoyable providing that the venue is well laid out and the caterers are experienced at serving large crowds. There is nothing worse than seeing other people almost finished eating their meal, and you are sitting with your mouth wide open, waiting to be served. Ideally each course should be served at all the tables simultaneously, so that when that course is over, all the dirty dishes can be removed at the same time or within a short time. It should be timed so that everyone
is eating the same course at about the same time.

The dinner table is also the place to excel with your decorations and a good place to carry through the colour and theme of your wedding.

The center piece is always a great conversation piece. It is to be admired and the guests are sitting for at least two hours at the dining table, so they would have a lot of time to admire your Center Pieces. Sometimes, the guests are allowed to take these away as a keepsake.

The dinner table is also the place for your wedding favours! There should be one for each dinner setting.

Adults, like children at a party, love to receive little gifts and trinkets. After all, who doesn’t like to receive gifts? Wedding favours come in every form and fashion. They can be ornamental or edible – you can have either or both. There are so many to choose from! Sugar-coated almonds in various colours are always a favourite. In some cultures, mini-wedding cakes are served in small cake boxes, bearing the colour or theme of the wedding, tied with beautiful matching ribbons with inscriptions such
as the names of the married couple and the date of the wedding.

It is always best to begin the speeches and presentations after people have eaten the main course. They are satiated and now ready to listen to the endless speeches and jokes that are hopefully funny!
